Kings in the ANE

I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on King and Messiah as Son of God. Lately I’ve be drawn back into discussion of ‘son of God’, “divine” intermediaries, and just how Jews in the Second Temple Period talked about God. On a social and textual level it is fascinating to see the diversity. I enjoyed Collins’ Scepter and the Star and I am sure this will deliver as well.

The big debate on this issue, among the conversation partners of Dunn, McGrath, Collins, Hurtado, and Bauckham is method. I am finding that method is increasingly why people have come to very different conclusions.
